Teluk, the largest bridge and the symbol of Palu, was totally destroyed by the severe tsunami.

Teluk bridge which connects the East and West of Sulawesi province, Indonesia was collapsed after a tsunami of up to 2m hit a small city on Sulawesi after a major 7.5 quake struck offshore.

Indonesian Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho put the death toll at 405 early Sunday, based on the number of bodies that had been recovered.

More than 400 people were badly injured. Many victims were still buried under the rubble of buildings and houses and evacuation efforts were slowed by lack of heavy equipment and personnel.

Many people have left the comments showing their sadness toward the tragic disaster.

"Was about to say hopefully not many have died but then saw that toll. R.I.P. Hopefully that number does not rise into the thousands."

"Tragic. Can't even imagine how devastating the conditions must be right now."

"Looks like the Teluk Palu bridge is a total loss. It's a major conduit in the region."

"That video gave me chills. Nature is scary."
