47-year-old patient was transferred to Hanoi Medical University Hospital in Vietnam last week when he was exhausted, bedridden and painful. In particular, the patient’s feet joints are severely deformed, rough and emerge large tumors.
The doctors shared that this case is a typical example of the patients who suffer from chronic gout. However, the patient having their joints “grow” like that is very rare.
Patient was diagnosed with kidney failure, chronic gout, severe joint deformities, tophi infections, severe anemia and poor health. It is known that the patient having used alcohol was diagnosed with gout for more than 25 years.
Doctor said that gout is a disease caused by metabolic disorders of the purine nucleus which helps uric acid to increase in the blood. When uric acid levels in blood rise to a certain levels, deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the tissues, joints, and kidneys will happen. This cause the symptoms of gout.
Gout arthritis usually causes swollen red hot pain in the joints that can happen in one joint or multiple joints. The patients usually have gout in the joints such as the ankle, ankle, knee, wrist, elbow, finger, etc. Sometimes, they usually have fever 38 – 38.5 degrees or kidney disease and tophi will appear.
The cause of gout is the increasing of uric acid in blood, which is closely related to urea levels, body weight, height, age, blood pressure and especially alcohol.
Through this case, the doctors hope that all people pay much attention to eating and drinking so as not to get gout by following these advice: keeping proper body weight; eating less protein, eating no more than 150 grams of meat per day, fat fish, etc. Instead, please eat plenty of green vegetables, eggs, yogurt, fruit and drink much water during the day and focus on physical activity, have medical checkup as much as possible.
