Mimi Satrio, Tiyo’s mother said  “I thought he was normal like my other children. The midwife didn’t say anything. She just said he was “normal”, just like that. He was good, normal and healthy. I was told in the afternoon, the day after I gave birth in the middle of the night. I was surprised, very surprised. Now I feel fine, I feel normal about it, I’ve accepted it.”

Previously the family received financial aid from the government.

“We got it before but not anymore, It’s been a year that we get nothing.”, his mother expresses.

Being one of five children, Tiyo’s grown up and his brothers are living in other parts of the country, so his parents are left alone to care for him.

“Taking care of Tiyo everyday, we can’t go anywhere”, Wawan Satrio, Tiyo’s father told.

Tiyo goes to a small special needs school in Pananwangan and is excelling.

He has an interest in mathematics, he has top marks in mathematics and religion

“Praise the lord, he is intelligent. He has an interest in mathematics, he has top marks in mathematics and religion. The scores are good!”, his mother is so proud of him.

Budiwati, Tiyo’s Teacher , “His IQ is good, he’s smart. He can do 4th grade lessons. He can do mathematics such as Multiplication and Divison, although he’s still in 2nd grade.”

Using his mouth to write, Tiyo also uses his chin to take part in his favourite free time-video games.

“After taking a bath he plays PS. Until the teacher picks him up. After school he plays PS again. Every day he plays after school”, his mother smiled and happily said.

Although he faces more challenges than the average 11-year-old, he’s determined to make the most out of his life.
